Wintertime Reflections 2/13/2025

Today we thought we’d give a sneak peak into some of our wintertime reflections. We’ve been wanting to give an update this winter, so you’d know that we’re still here, but we weren’t sure what to say. Honestly, it’s just been nice to slow down and not constantly shout out the next new thing we’re doing. Thank you for sticking with us even when we go quiet after farmers market season. ❄

The Quiet Beauty of Winter

There’s certain things we think about every winter, and now that the fields finally have a layer of snow on them, those thoughts cross our minds again. Wintertime is our time to reflect, plan, and prepare for the coming season. We could say we’ve been busy: thinking about ordering seeds, mapping out our garden beds, and brainstorming delicious new items to bring to market. And yes, we’ve been thinking about what’s coming next season (so stay tuned!), but our main focus has been on reflecting and using this time to rest.

After Farmers Markets

After the farmers market ends, we normally take a couple weeks to wrap-up our summer projects. Then we take a couple more weeks to make sure everything is prepped and ready for winter. Before we know it, Thanksgiving is knocking on our door along with everything that fills our calendar in December. In the past, this has included Christmas by the Lake or another Christmas farmers market, but that didn’t pan out for us in 2024. Instead, we squeezed in a little more time with our boys before they all leave the nest for good.

Slowing Down on the Farm

By the middle of January, life on the farm finally starts to slow down, and we welcome the change of pace. Mornings start a little slower, a cup of coffee warms our hands a little longer, and we take time to appreciate the stillness that winter brings. We spend time enjoying our hobbies, we finish tasks that were pushed aside during the summer, and we embrace long, unhurried conversations with family and friends around our dinner table. ☕

Looking Back at the Year

For us, wintertime is a season of reflection, where we look back on the past year—the challenges, the triumphs, and all the moments in between. We think about the smiling faces at the farmers market, the conversations shared over fresh bread, and the joy of seeing customers return week after week. These are the memories that keep us warm through the cold months.

Finding Joy in the Slower Moments

Winter isn’t just about preparing for next season—it’s about embracing the present. The time we spend in the kitchen involves less time baking and more time cooking, experimenting with new flavors and perfecting old favorites. We read books, catch up on rest, and enjoy the pleasure of simply being home. And of course, there’s always the fun of winter itself—laughing as our dogs tromp through the snow, watching the sunrise over frosty trees, or enjoying a homemade meal after a long, chilly day. ⛄

Looking Forward, But Not Rushing

While we’re excited for what’s ahead, we’re in no hurry. Winter reminds us that rest is good, that slowing down is part of the process, and that taking time to reflect makes the work ahead even more rewarding. So, for now, we’ll savor these quiet months, knowing that when spring finally arrives, we’ll be ready. And when the farmers market season returns, we’ll be there, refreshed and excited to share all that we’ve been working on. Until then, we hope you’re finding time to rest, too. Stay warm, enjoy the season, and we’ll see you in the spring! 🌸
